Simmering 1 is a combined gas and steam power plant that has an installed electric output of 710 megawatts and a district heating output of 450 megawatts, making it the highest performing power plant owned by Wien Energie. It was commissioned in 2009 and is one of the most modern and environmentally friendly plants of its kind. The Simmering 2 and 3 power plants are located at the same site.

Modern combined gas and steam power plants only achieve an efficiency ratio of between 50 and 60 percent,  cogeneration technology enables Wien Energie plants to achieve a fuel utilisation ratio of up to 86 percent.

Even the cooling water is being used to produce electricity, the water is processed by a Kaplan turbine before being fed back into the Danube canal.

Attendees are required to wear sensible casual clothing.
